About Frome Drama Club

Frome Drama Club started life way back in 1946 and has been constantly active up to the present day. We pride ourselves in being a very friendly club with over 80 members. We are always pleased to welcome new people, whether they want to act, direct, work in the production team or just come along to our social events as 'Friends' of the Club. Lack of experience has never been a bar to casting or getting involved backstage so, if you're interested, we would love to hear from you.

We are keen to encourage people in all aspects of drama, costume, props, lighting, sound, make-up as well as acting, directing and producing. We strive to maintain a very high standard of performance and we have a well-deserved reputation for quality.

In recent times we have increased our output to three productions a year, - two full length plays in spring and autumn, and a one act play in the summer as part of the annual Frome Festival. The Merlin Theatre is our home for the two major productions while our Festival venues are varied and have included some outdoor productions and village tours.

FDC has an open auditions policy whereby anyone can come along regardless of membership. Casting is decided by a panel which includes the director and two club members. Any non-member who is cast will, of course, be required to become a member.

We hold monthly play readings at The Cornerhouse and these sessions provide excellent opportunities - for potential directors to try out ideas; for members to keep in touch; and especially for newcomers to 'dip a toe in the water' rather than having to dive in head first! We take a summer break in August and a winter break in December.

We are society members of the Somerset Fellowship of Drama (SFD) and the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA)
