Play readings
In all cases the venue is THE LAMB, Bath Street at 8 p.m.
2010 got off to a flying start with a reading in January of Harvey by Mary Chase. Best known as a film starring James Stewart and his six foot rabbit friend, Harvey, this original play version was utterly charming and was a perfect winter warmer during a very cold and snowy New Year.
In February we read Bouncers by John Godber. Set in a northern nightclub, Bouncers is now considered a modern classic featuring as a set text for schools. The acting version is frequently updated to keep it fresh and real. A great read!
In March the choice of play was One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest by Dale Wasserman adapted from the novel by Ken Kesey. Made famous by the film featuring one of Jack Nicholson's finest performances, the stage version still packs a very powerful punch.
In April we read Terence Rattigan's classic play Separate Tables. A beautifully written piece which, though very much of its period, touches on timeless human frailties.
In May we read the extraordinary Under Milk Wood by Dylan Thomas. A play for voices, both very funny and beautifully written, attracted over 20 people who shared over 60 parts!
In June we paid homage once more to Oscar Wilde when we read The Importance Of Being Earnest - "a trivial play for serious people"!
In July we revisited the brilliant Arthur Miller - this time reading A View from the Bridge. Set in 1950's New York, it tells the story of Eddie , an illiterate longshoreman, and his journey of self-discovery and self-destruction.
We will now take a summer break during the month of August but, for your diaries, the remaining 2010 play reading dates will be as shown below:-
